Doug Lubahn, Studio Bassist For The Doors, Passes Away At Age 71

Doug Lubahn, the studio bassist for The Doors on three of their albums, has died at the age of 71.

The band shared the sad news on Twitter saying, "Our condolences go out to the family, friends, and fans of Doug Lubahn. Doug made indelible contributions to rock and roll, and especially to The Doors."

Lubahn played bass on three of the band's albums: 1967’sStrange Days, 1968’sWaiting for the Sun, and 1969’sThe Soft Parade.

The band never really had a permanent bass player, but they did offer the job to Lubahn once and he turned it down. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, producer Paul Rothchild is the person who asked him to join the band. In an interview prior to his death, Doug said, "He asked me if I would consider joining the Doors. He was also producing my band Clear Light. So it kind of offended me. It was like, 'What? You're working with my band and you want me to quit my band and join this band?' And so I said no.”
