David Lee Roth To Focus On Becoming 'King Of Las Vegas' In Next 5 Years

With the Van Halen-era at an end, David Lee Roth wants to become the "king of Las Vegas."

Roth made the declaration in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning that was recorded prior to Eddie Van Halen's death on October 7.

The singer and Van Halen co-founder was asked if he had a five-year plan for himself.

"Showbiz. I'm gonna be the kind of Las Vegas," he replied. "Las Vegas is truly international. Think of it as what the old record stores were. You have the dance section, you've got the Latino section, you've got the country section...and you have an appreciation for the neighborhoods."

The typically-circuitous thread continued, with Roth explaining that there are "mainstays" that transcend all genres in entertainment: "those senses of humor, those senses of family, those senses of what's dramatic, and those senses of what hits you right the heart. If you had participation in all those communities and you are a genuine fan, then you can say, 'I have returned to be your king!"

Roth turned his attention to Vegas in 2019 and launched his first Las Vegas residency this past January at the House of Blues Las Vegas.

The frontman made the decision to revive his solo career after plans for a Van Halen reunion with Michael Anthony in 2019 fell through, presumably due to Eddie's health.

Van Halen was closely guarded when it came to Eddie's condition, but Roth said the band was likely "finished" when he announced his intention to work Vegas and tour with Kiss in 2020as a solo act.

Roth said at the time that Eddie would tell his side of the story if and when he was ready. Until then, the singer said it was up to him to keep Van Halen's legacy alive.

Since Eddie's passing, Roth has shared several backstage photos of the two via social media with the caption, "What a Long Great Trip It's Been..."
